This completely free and online course is designed to be used in conjunction with Know Thyself: The Value and Limits of Self-Knowledge. Each week the book’s author talks you through some of the central issues relating to self-knowledge including the unconscious, the value of the “examined life,” wisdom, the varieties of knowledge, empathy, the nature of self, and even challenges to the existence of a self. No prior knowledge of philosophy is required. Students who successfully complete the course are eligible for a certificate of completion from Coursera.
The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) was made possible thanks to generous support from the John Templeton Foundation. The Templeton Foundation funds the Humility and Conviction in Public Life (HCPL) project at the University of Connecticut. Created through collaboration between the HCPL project and the University of Edinburgh’s Eidyn research centre, the MOOC is taught by Dr. Mitchell S. Green and offered by Coursera.
